2015 Season - Week 20
BUMSBowl XX
The Championship games were pretty much all over by halftime as AP and Cheryl were both AFC heavy. After a tight defensive game AP (seeded 15) led Mark (#10) 11-6 and had only two Panthers left to play but they were on Marks team as well. So all Mark needed was six points from Cam Newton, Graham Gano or Michael Floyd. While Floyd only caught 3 for 37 and no scores Newton and Gano combined for 30 points!! John (#16) led Cheryl (#8) 14-9 with Newton, Floyd, Greg Olsen and David Johnson still to play while Cheryl had just Chandler Catanzaro and Ted Ginn. After 10 minutes Cheryl actually took the lead 15-14 on Ginn’s 22 yard run but her kicker only scored 1 point and John ran out an easy winner 39-16. The best team AP and Cheryl could have selected would have put up 60 points for just $4.5m (Newton 19pts $2m, Gano 11pts $0.5m, Owen Daniels 12pts $0.5m, and three of Ginn, Johnson, Darren Fells or Corey Brown who all cost $0.5m and scored a TD). They didn’t so it’s Westmorland in their record-setting sixth BUMSBowl versus Weymouth Bay Bargaineers in their swansong, for BUMSBowl XX.
Superbowl 50
Two very different championship games. Denver held on thanks to an awesome defense and a missed PAT kick. Denver hit Tom Brady 19 times, the most in a decade as Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware wreaked havoc. New England lost by 2 points after Stephen Gostkowski missed a first quarter PAT, his first miss in 524 PATs. However he wasn’t the person getting the blame for the loss, that’s been aimed at Bill Bellicheat who down by 8 on the Denver 16 with six minutes left went for it on 4th and 1. Then with 2:25 to go and a 4th and 6 at the Denver 14 again went for it. If he’d gone for the Field Goal on either of those the Pats would have been down by 5 before Gronkowski caught his TD pass with 12 seconds left. The other game was a beat down with Carolina being described as a Juggernaut and Arizona being hit by an Avalanche. Carson Palmer gave the ball away more times than Cam Newton (and the Panther children got plenty of TD balls), but the 7 turnovers Carolina got was the most in a playoff game since 2001.
All-BUMS Voting
Don’t forget to vote for your favourite players of 2015, thanks to those who have already supplied them. Remember I need (in order) your top 3 Running Backs and top 3 Receivers plus your number 1 & 2 Quarterbacks, Kickers and Coaches. Vote for your players based on BUMS points (see attached), how much you enjoy them, what they meant to their BUMS/NFL team or just the fact they were on your roster. The deadline is Wednesday February 3rd but please get your votes in as soon as possible.
BUMS on ProBowl and Superbowl Seats
The ProBowl is played this Sunday (a week before the Superbowl) and we will be meeting at Johnnies on Monday from 7pm to see it. Let him know if you are going, he’ll be running his ProBowl silliness game. Meanwhile the Superbowl is late on Sunday February 7th & as always Cheryl will be cooking a USA feast so let us know if you can make it. It will be an unbiased meal of Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Banana Pudding (Carolina) and possibly Rocky Mountain Oysters (literally bollocks) washed down with Coors Light followed by Weed Brownies from Colorado – or maybe not. We’ll also be playing all the usual SUPERgames, more information on them next week.
Post Season Dinner
We will be eating meat on Thursday 18th February from 6:30pm at The Bountiful Cow in Holborn. “A public house devoted to beef” as they say. I need to book a table so let me know if you are coming by asap, and before Superbowl night and I’ll book it. See http://www.thebountifulcow.co.uk/new/menu
